Weed Delivery Laws in Denver

January 2020 brings more than just a new year and a new decade– it also brings a significant step forward for the marijuana industry in Colorado. Thanks to a bill passed by the state senate in May 2019, it is now legal to deliver marijuana in the state of Colorado.

It’s not quite that simple, though, especially if you’re imagining getting your cannabis delivered as if it’s a pizza or a sandwich. Rules and regulations still apply, and it will even depend on whether or not your local government has opted for cannabis delivery. Here’s what you need to know about the new Colorado marijuana laws, especially as it relates to cannabis delivery.

New Colorado Weed Laws

The new law about cannabis delivery in Colorado isn’t the only change going into effect in January of 2020. Among the many rules to go into effect on 1/1/2020, there was also a second cannabis law. In addition to allowing cannabis delivery to create more convenience for cannabis consumers in Colorado, there is a new law in regards to places where people can enjoy cannabis.

Learn more about both to get a better understanding of what to expect from the Colorado cannabis industry in 2020. All things considered, these big steps will help the Colorado cannabis industry continue to be the best in the world.

Regulated Weed Delivery

Many Colorado residents are most excited about the new cannabis delivery law. House bill 1234 allows for the regulated delivery of medical marijuana in 2020, and the legal transportation of recreational marijuana will begin in 2021, assuming there are no setbacks. The first year is something of a trial run to see how deliveries will work and whether there are any additional details to iron out. If all goes well with medical marijuana deliveries, recreational cannabis delivery should be legal on January 2, 2021.

One important detail about this bill is that it still requires local governments to sign off on cannabis deliveries to make it legal in those municipalities. We don’t expect there to be a lot of pushback here in Denver, but other parts of the state may be slower to adopt change. Many of the cities haven’t made their official decision yet, so we could still be surprised. Even those areas that do hold out at first are likely to start allowing deliveries once they see how well it goes over in other parts of the state.
